DOC: The Culture High

A fellow cannabis x Kickstarter group looks to create some buzz among U.S. audiences with their latest doc on dope: The Culture High. Following up the success of The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (2007), this one investigates the motives propelling the growth and prohibition of cannabis in North America from some thought provoking angles: voices range from university professors to former undercover agents to celeb stoners like Wiz Khalifa, it's got cannabis culture pretty well covered.

The film's site adds the synoptic guts: "With budgets to fight the war reaching billions and arrests for simple possession skyrocketing to nearly a million annually, the debate over marijuana's legality has reached epic proportions…. 'The Culture High' raises the stakes with some of today's biggest names, unprecedented access to footage previously unobtainable, and incredibly moving testimonials from both sides of the spectrum."

Concerns about the drug war are on the rise, especially when we consider the broad reach of other recent docs. This uptick in quality features addressing the issue has undoubtedly opened the minds of many to the darker history of federal prohibition efforts in this country – it's no wonder so few Americans still think such a war is actually winnable.
