DJ Cavem Marches for Climate Justice in '1 For The Hood' Music Video

It’s like a jungle sometimes, I see ‘em killing the trees. Corrupt land with the foreign disease. Displace the animals, and make it harder to breathe. Make you fall to your knees, reminiscent of bees.

Before you sit down, pray in all four directions. Use the food stamps in the produce section.
Gets some land. Harvest water. Keep it movin’...

Drop a seed, feed a nation with that green gold.

DJ CAVEM – "1 For The Hood"

DJ Cavem Marches for Climate Justice in '1 For The Hood' Music Video

June 12, 2020

When it comes to music, first of all, we’re about liberation music that speaks truth to power in whatever form. For true liberation and resistance – as well as regeneration – nature must be at the center of the spinning wheel of the world. For us, that means lyrics matter, as words become thoughts and shared emotion, which lead us towards inspiration and action. To protest is to be seen, to be heard and eventually to be reckoned with in the the form of political and cultural change.

Recreator hit the Denver streets to link up for a second video collaboration with hometown emcee DJ CAVEM – plant-based chef, lyricist, educator and passionate grassroots environmental activist. Partnering with the F4D Studio team to make music video magic for Cavem’s new single, ‘1 For The Hood’ (from the BIOMiMICZ EP), we were welcomed the chance to style an eco-anthem for this moment in history.

Kitted in hemp threads, pockets lined with seed packets that are the BIOMiMICZ album and commanding a megaphone is Cavem – joined by like-minded artist-activists ILL Se7en, Alkemia Earth, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez and the Earth Guardians organization. The crew is marching on the Denver capitol building as part of the national strike for climate action (#climateaction). From the food systems that feed us to the fiber systems that clothe us, we hope this project brings awareness to the climate crisis and it's impact on low-income and minority populations, and we ultimately look to inspire further collective action for equitable climate solutions.

In an interview with Hip Hop DX, Cavem shares the influence behind the overall album concept: “Growing food develops cooperative economics ... Teaching organic gardening and composting througha song about water conservation is imperative. So , I designed my curriculums and BIOMiMICZ (album) through packets of seeds becuase I believe in the concept that we can grow our future together. My latest environmental hip hop album needed to be dedicated to biomimicry. So I formed Plant-Based Records and dropped beet, kale and arugula seeds to distribute the music instead of plastic CDs.”
